Thank you for considering a Donation to support the SMMHS Signal Corps Marching Band!
Our elite marching program, under the direction of Drew Buckner, Shelby Walker, and Matt Broom has ranked in the Top 5 among high school marching bands in the Division 2 Tennessee state competition for three consecutive years.
We earned 3rd place overall (2nd in Music and Visual) in at our last showing in the 2019 season before Covid cancelled all competitions in 2020. Our kids have worked hard last year and all this summer and look forward to taking their new show “Crossing Signal” to State and setting a new record.
Signal Corps also placed 1st in Outstanding Musical Performance at the 2019 Regional Bands of America (BOA) Division 1A Championship in Powder Springs, Georgia, and were Class Champs.
With your support, we not only will return to TN State finals and a regional BOA competition this year but also soar higher by competing in the BOA Grand Nationals at Indianapolis. This is like the ‘Super Bowl’ for high school marching bands, and to say our kids are excited is an understatement.
This is a stretch for our small band without a large business base in our bedroom community.
YOUR financial contributions will help make this ‘trip of a lifetime’ happen for our kids, many who will require scholarships for the four-day trip. And, it will help us avoid taking funds from our savings account set aside for new uniforms (to replace the originals from when our school opened in 2008).
It costs around $100,000 each year to fund summer band camps, marching season, competitions, and concert band for our students. Band fees and fundraisers are necessary to provide income to cover the nearly $1,000 average cost for each student in our marching band and guard programs that are not funded by the Hamilton County District of Education.

Through their dedication to marching band, our students graduate as dedicated, goal oriented, team building adults who succeed at much higher rates as they matriculate to college and the workforce.
